Low vision appointments
Helping you make the most of your vision.
Practical support for everyday tasks when glasses or contact lenses no longer give you what you need.
NHS-funded for eligible patients.
-
A low vision assessment may help if you find everyday activities difficult, such as reading, recognising faces or enjoying hobbies, even when wearing your prescribed glasses or contact lenses.
You do not need to be registered as sight impaired to ask about an assessment. Contact us to discuss your difficulties and check whether you qualify for the service.
-
We’ll discuss the activities you find difficult and what you would like help with. Your practitioner will assess your vision and explore practical ways to help you make the most of your remaining sight.
This may include trying magnifiers, advice on lighting and contrast, and techniques to make everyday tasks easier. We can also direct you to other organisations and services for further support.
-
Low vision assessments are NHS-funded for eligible patients through Wales General Ophthalmic Services (WGOS 3). Suitable low vision aids prescribed through the service are provided on loan, free of charge.
You should have had a sight test within the past year. If you haven’t, please let us know when enquiring.
Please bring your current glasses, any magnifiers you already use and relevant eye-clinic letters. You’re also welcome to bring an example of something you find difficult to read.
