Children’s Eye Examination
Friendly eye care for growing eyes
A welcoming appointment, with clear explanations and time for your questions.
Your child’s appointment
-
We’ll begin by discussing your child’s vision, general health and any concerns you may have. Your optometrist will use tests suited to your child’s age and ability to assess their sight, eye health and whether glasses are needed. We’ll explain the findings clearly and discuss any recommended next steps.
-
No—your child doesn’t need to be able to read or recognise letters to have an eye examination. Pictures, matching games and other age-appropriate tests can be used instead. Let us know about any additional needs when booking so we can discuss how best to support your child.
-
Please bring any glasses your child currently wears, details of their medication and any relevant eye-clinic letters. Tell us about any concerns you or their teachers have noticed, and any family history of childhood eye problems. A favourite toy can help your child feel more comfortable.
The information about picture and matching tests is consistent with NHS guidance.
